Garden Oaks is a neighborhood located just north of the Houston Heights. The neighborhood was established in 1937 by Edward L. Crain and consists of 5 sections. The westernmost section is constituted of G.I. homes built for veterans returning after World War II. Like its name would suggest, Garden Oaks is highly populated by oak trees. Pecan and pine trees are also abundant in this heavily wooded area. Unlike some other Houston neighborhoods, no one style of house dominates the area. Cottages, bungalows, plantation, ranch and traditional style homes are all found in Garden Oaks. The neighborhood’s beauty, great location, diverse architecture and oversized lots have led to a steady increase in popularity. Garden Oaks was once seen as very underrated and as one of Houston’s best-kept secrets, but it seems that the secret is out.
