Oak Forest is a neighborhood in northwest Houston, just north of the 610 Loop. The neighborhood was developed by Frank Sharp beginning in 1946 and is one of Houston’s largest residential neighborhoods. Oak Forest began as a place for World War II veterans, as many of the neighborhood’s first homes were sold to those returning from the war. Sharp designed the neighborhood with its future in mind, leaving plenty of space for schools, churches, parks and retail centers. This forward thinking has made for a very functional, livable and resident friendly community. Oak Forest’s large lots are another very attractive feature of the neighborhood. And as the neighborhood’s popularity is surging, massive houses are being built on some of these big lots. Even so, Oak Forest maintains the charm that had been established by its postwar homes, tree lined streets and small town feel.
