Woodland Heights is a subdivision of the Houston Heights Area located just north of Downtown Houston. Founded in 1907, it is one of the closest residential neighborhoods to Downtown Houston. The neighborhood can be recognized by its abundance of historic bungalow style homes. These extraordinary homes and the community’s extremely close proximity to downtown have led to a recent resurgence in its popularity. Woodland Heights is also known for its December event, Lights in the Heights, which draws numerous Houstonians to the area for one night each year. The celebration features 14 neighborhood blocks lit by luminaria as well as the majority of neighborhood houses being decorated with lights. Hot beverages, live music and carriage rides are staples of the event.
